Late Gothic field stone building from the 14th century. The truss tower was added later, it was put on the church in 1858.

We only saw them from a distance, but it's not that far off the track and it's definitely worth it.

Welskendorp was first mentioned in 1307. It is either a mixed name with Welsike - in Slavic a place where alders grow, or a transfer of Velzeke from today's Belgium.

The Welsickendorf church consists of a nave and a recessed chancel with a straight east end. This was made of modern brick material and probably only built up in 1885. Above the nave rises a high baroque half-timbered brick roof tower with a tail cap and lantern. The masonry of the nave and chancel consists, especially in the lower layers, of relatively well-worked blocks of fieldstone, which alternate with small gussets.

All windows have recently been enlarged, have stepped brick soffits and some plaster frames. Older remains of windows, also with brick soffits, can be seen on the south side of the chancel. These could, however, come from a baroque reconstruction. The west portal is modern. The stone soffits of the community portal and priest's gate can still be seen on the south side of the nave and chancel.

Judging from these entrances, which are walled up today, the ground plan and the quality of the masonry, the church probably belongs to the end of the 13th or the first half of the 14th century. Significant alterations appear to have taken place as early as the Baroque period. All openings were changed, the roof tower was put on and the building was probably completely plastered. The last thorough restoration took place in 1991/92.
