Duvensteine

You immediately feel that this is a mystical place. The rocks are not directly on the path, but next to it. Take the short detour and climb the "mother stones". Sure-footedness and hiking poles recommended! It's a steep climb.

A really mystical place, especially on a foggy November day, was a processional place before the Reformation, St Johannes Rast, today it's the Duvensteine again. A great rock formation, as it occurs more often in the Teutoburg Forest.

In Westphalian territory are the Duvensteine.

The Duvensteine do look a bit grim and rugged. It looks as if the rock has a mouth and eyes. It is understandable that our ancestors assumed that mysterious and "divine" forces were at work here.

Certainly not the big highlight on this tour, but of course seeing does not hurt.

A little further along the path, the Duvensteine are a little higher up in the forest. There is interesting information on the information board.
