Renens VD station since 1856
OS lines opened on May 5, 1856.
In 1856, traffic began in an easterly direction as far as Lausanne.
The OS network expanded continuously along Lake Geneva. The company was denied the opportunity to build a line to Geneva and thus connect to the French railway network. The concession for the short section of the Geneva canton was awarded to the Geneva-Lyon railway, which founded its own company for the short railway line.
This led to the extremely unsatisfactory fact that three railway companies were involved in the route from Geneva to Neuchâtel.
The individual western Swiss railways were not particularly profitable. This is why the competing railway companies looked for a joint operating company.
