The Cubanita no longer exists.
Rather, the Hengstplatz-Carree is currently being built there, consisting of two historic buildings that are being converted (one of which was the Cubanita) and two new buildings.
The construction work was delayed by the discovery of many skeletons in November 2023 during the excavation for the new buildings. These come from the cemetery of a former hospital that stood there centuries ago. Since March 2024, the State Office for Monument Preservation has reopened the construction site.

There is a place to stop for refreshments at the Cubanita.
One of Durlach's two cinemas used to be right on the square.
