The stone channel is the name given to the raised bed of a stream near the spring in karst landscapes, created by the precipitation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3, in this special case also called spring lime). Stone gutters are often protected as geotopes (geological natural monuments). (Wiki) please do not enter gutters - touch or destroy them

Calcareous water emerges from the rock here and deposits the lime when it runs above ground. The channel thus grows steadily and consists of purely inorganic substances. Not the only one of its kind in Franconia, but one of the most beautiful.

In the middle of the forest you will find the Steinerne Rinne with a display board.
Stone channels are formed by separating lime from flowing water. This increases the creek bed. The source at Hechlingen is an overflow source with a low temperature and a high proportion of dissolved lime compounds.
