The Eppinger & Schüle gypsum factory was the most efficient in all of southern Germany in its heyday. A small railway brought the gypsum to the train station. This industrial track along the Roman road, the legendary "Gleisle", marked the border between Leonberg and Eltingen. In the 1930s, the company management let the people of Leonberg and Eltingen use the lake in the gypsum quarry as an outdoor swimming pool.

The only downside is that there are far too many geese that leave their lavish droppings all over the park. Something should (must) be done about this as soon as possible.
