The "Castrum Vrenze" was already mentioned as the ancestral seat of a Frens family in 1263. This family must have died out at the beginning of the 14th century, because the castle came into the possession of the Counts of Virneburg. Remote castle - really nice, but the owners are not overly keen on visitors.
The last 100m to the castle are quite gravelly.
The access roads to Quadrath that have been open since time immemorial are now closed.

Castle Frens cannot be visited as it is privately owned and inhabited. The moated castle is a Renaissance castle in the Ichendorf district of the city of Bergheim.
