The origins of the noble seat probably date back to the 13th century, with the first documentary mention as Castrum Vrenze, in 1263. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded. The Raitz von Frenz family, one of the oldest patrician families in Cologne, owned the extensive property for almost 400 years. In the mid-20th century, Frens Castle became the property of the von Abercron family.

Castle Frens cannot be visited as it is privately owned and inhabited. The moated castle is a Renaissance castle in the Ichendorf district of the city of Bergheim.

Super TOUR on the bike path to Erft along the unfortunately at Komoot is not Eingetrgen. Castle Frens zb. The Navisprachstimme is almost freaked out because we have not followed the proposed way and have found the super super bike path which is normally drivable with gravel. Great tour
