A beautiful fountain with drinking water and a connection to the historical place where it stands. It is intended to remind us of the old cattle trough from 1838 on Ochsentorstrasse.
Nothing can be seen of the Ochsentor itself (located a little further north), but you can still see the shell of the slaughterhouse, which was in operation until 1938.
Here, right next to the fountain, Zunftstrasse leads through two archways through a house.

A work of art by Hans Vaupel: the artist studied under Prof. Wilhelm Loth at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. Born in Bochum, he has lived in Karlsruhe as a freelance sculptor since 1961. For the Durlach Rappenbrunnen fountain, Vaupel used two different stones to distinguish between the contents and the structure. While the basin is made of light granite, the heads of the horse and cow are carved from dark diabase.
