The Nordermarkt is the medieval center of Flensburg and the oldest market square in the city. It was built in the middle of the 12th century under the Danish King Waldemar I, when a new settlement was built here. In the middle of the square stands the Neptune fountain from 1785.

The Nordermarkt dates back to the Wilhelminian era and is the oldest market square in the city of Flensburg. It was built around 1200 together with the Church of St. Mary under King Knud VI. This marketplace was considered a major advance, especially for shipping, as ships with a greater draft now had the opportunity to dock here with their goods. This was a great advantage, especially for trade. Attractions worth seeing on the Nordermarkt include the Neptune Fountain, built in 1758, and the “Schrangen”. The latter is a house with an arcade from 1595, which is located to the side of the market square. Butchers and bakers used to set up their stalls there. You could buy fresh sausage and baked goods here every day. In earlier times, pillories were also set up on the Nordermarkt.
Nowadays there are numerous shops, cafés and pubs in the tasteful old buildings. In this rustic and partly Mediterranean atmosphere you have, among other things, the opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a good cup of coffee. A theater, which is also located on the Nordermarkt, is another option for culture enthusiasts. Also worth mentioning is the view of the Flensburg harbor. Especially on warm summer evenings, the Nordermarkt is bustling with activity until late into the night.
