Statue was made by Louis Mast (°Ghent 1857 - +1901)
It stood in Citadel Park. Now in Koning Albert Park on the Zuid.
The inscription on the pedestal reads: "Ave Caesar, morituri te salutant", "Greetings Caesar, those who are going to die greet you"
The statue has been moved many times. Royal Athenaeum, Zuidpark at the height of Twee Bruggenstraat, Citadel Park, Zuidpark Current location. The statue has been vandalized several times and the sword in particular was stolen or broken off several times. Walter de Buck has restored it several times.
