There used to be an old mill here, where Matthes Enderlein was born in 1493. He is considered the city's most famous son and the founder of European mining law.

Hiking

The Mühlbergbrunnen in Zwönitz is designed to commemorate a mill that stood here in the 15th century. Water flows from a four-ton granite stone onto a mill wheel carved into the stone. On the fountain wall, a relief commemorates Matthes Enderlein (1493-1556). He was born in the former mill in 1493, attended the University of Leipzig in 1518, and was then rector of the Schneeberg Latin School. He is considered the founder of European mining law, as he wrote many legal works on mining during his time in St. Joachimsthal. frontinus.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Voigt_Brunnen.pdf
