The Waldshut and Wiesental area, based on what I've seen of the Southern Black Forest so far, is among the more charming parts. Unlike the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald or Schwarzwald-Baar districts with their gentler silhouettes and open landscapes, this area is wilder and more spectacular. Rugged cliffs and narrow, winding roads along steep precipices sometimes evoke memories of Spain, southern France, or Italy. The trade-off, however, is more extreme elevation changes that need to be addressed along the way, requiring better fitness and being more strenuous. Nevertheless, anyone who hasn't yet explored this region is missing out.
