The small road from the Münstertal up to the Schauinsland is tough, up to 18 percent (but only briefly) but also the 12 to 15 percent in longer sections sometimes drive you out of the saddle. As compensation, there is cool air from the nearby creek and the normally poorest ascent to the Schauinsland as well as a great view in the upper area.

By far the steepest, but also traffic-poorest increase on the Schauinsland. Up to 18% in the peak and longer periods of 12-14% may meanwhile let the view of the very idyllic valley be a bit narrow, but the route is still highly recommended. In downhill direction, a certain caution is recommended, because the road is usually narrow, the curves sharp and although the traffic is bearable, you often meet quickly moving cars and motorcycles.

It is fascinating that 7-9% can almost be perceived as relaxing in between ... And what a feeling of triumph when, almost at the top, after the football field, you "may" experience an almost flat 2-4% again.

A tip for newcomers to this climb:
Two of the three "correct" switchbacks, the first and the third, are right-hand turns, i.e. you drive them more or less on the inner radius, where it is even steeper. It is advisable to be prepared for this: Correct (easiest?) Gear in, possibly out of the saddle, possibly adjusting the oncoming traffic so that you drive far enough center / left.

At these points I have already seen motorized two-wheeled colleagues overturning after a desperate struggle, initiated too late between clutch, downshifting in the first and accelerating, because the ground offered no support for the boots because of the %%. Naturally, this happened almost suddenly, and luckily nothing else had happened; But nobody needs that, also and above all no cyclist anchored in the clickies.
