Grubbenvorst (North Limburgish: Grubevors or Grevors) is a church village in the north of the Dutch province of Limburg and belongs to the municipality of Horst aan de Maas and the municipality of Venlo (partly). With 4,855 (1 January 2023)[1] inhabitants, it is the third largest village in that municipality, after Horst and Sevenum. Together with the village of Lottum, it formed the municipality of Grubbenvorst from the beginning of the 1800s until 1 January 2001. After that date, this municipality merged with several other municipalities to form Horst aan de Maas. Grubben, also Gribben, was the name of the castle of which the ruins of the Broken Castle now remain. Grubben usually refers to a sunken road. The second part of the name "Vorst" was the name of the village. This name refers to a forest, owned by the lord of the area.
Traces of early Germanic habitation can also be found on the high bank of the Meuse. This high bank of the Meuse bears the name "Reuvelt", a name that probably dates from the Carolingian period.
