A lighthouse ship is a floating maritime safety device equipped with a lighting device and anchored in a place where it was not possible to set up a fixed safety device. Lighthouse ships are used to warn of objects dangerous to navigation, such as shoals and shallows, or to guide ships arriving in the harbor to the beginning of the channel. Usually, lighthouse ships are painted red to make them stand out better against the otherwise blue-gray surroundings.
