Since the GDR government has made a wide swath in the dense forests of the Werrabergland for the construction of the inner-German border, you have here again and again great views of the vast hilly landscape.
While you are wandering over the concrete slabs of the former GDR border patrol and enjoying the restored nature, you can hardly imagine that the border was once almost insurmountable.

Hiking
The Hesselskopf is 506 m above sea level and a piece of the inner German border, today known as the Green Belt, ran over it.
It is quite steep up the column path. Once at the top, you have a wonderful view of the Werra-Meissnerbergland. A bench on the mountain invites you to linger to enjoy the view or have a snack.
