Here, too, at the highest point in Hessian Switzerland, there is a very beautiful view of the Werra land

From the viewpoint Hohestein you can enjoy a fantastic view over the wooded ridges of the Werra-Berglands.

The distant view of the Werra valley, the view of the castle from above and the wonderful paths make up for the arduous ascent.

Use it as a highlight or as a hint: shortly after the Hohestein in the direction of Hörne, it is about 240 m downhill about 60 meters in altitude (or uphill if you come the other way around). In any case, this is an average of about 25% incline. Very beautiful, spectacular section of the route for North Hesse. It is exhausting dry, but should not be a problem if you are sure-footed. We were there shortly after a heavy shower and it was bordering on no longer fun.

One of the best views in Hessian Switzerland (insider tip to the right of the official vantage point).

Very, very steep and slippery with a lot of scree. Better to follow the signposted path X5.

The Hohestein is 569 m above sea level. NHN the highest mountain of the Gobert.
It rises in the northeast of the Werra-Meißner district, the state border with Thuringia and thus the former inner-German border runs over its northeastern branch.
The Hohestein extends from the main ridge of the Gobert in the border area to the Thuringian Eichsfeld in a westerly direction to the Werraschleife near Hessian Kleinvach. The Mühlbach (Motzbach) flows to the south past the Hohestein and the Hainbach to the north, both of which flow into the Werra.

A somewhat arduous ascent to the Hohestein, which is rewarded by the view.
However, a certain surefootedness and sensible footwear are recommended.
