The 93.30 meter long, two-span construction made of tubular steel framework was created as part of the urban redevelopment west (Schöneberg-Südkreuz funding area) and was opened in November 2012. It leads the Hertha Block Promenade of the newly created east-west green corridor north of the Südkreuz train station over the routes of the Dresden and Anhalter Railway and connects the district of Schöneberg on the Rote Insel with the district of Tempelhof on the General-Pape-Straße historical trail. The bridge is named after Alfred Lion, founder and owner of the jazz record label Blue Note.

Running
The Alfred-Lion Steg was opened in 2012 and has been connecting the Schöneberg Loop with the Hertha Block Promenade ever since. For joggers this is a perfect combination / shortcut. The bridge crosses the tracks of the S-Bahn and the main line north of the station Südkreuz.
