On Belgian territory, border stone no. 119 is located at kilometer 42 of the Maas. It marks the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, which runs along the middle of the Maas here.

In the Treaty of Maastricht of August 8, 1843, border lines were defined in detail on maps at a scale of 1:10,000 (sometimes even 1:2500). Cast iron border markers were erected with numbers from 1 to 369.
