You don't know exactly what this "thing" is supposed to represent: was it a lantern whose lamp was stolen? A well that has lost its trough? There are four flower boxes around it. No idea, but a very funny poem lines its base, which I'll leave untranslated for now, everyone should figure it out for themselves:
