The National House (Národní dům) dates from the Renaissance. The first documented owner is Petr Maršák from Husince, who sold it in 1583 to the Prachatice citizen Zikmund Turnovský of Turnštejn, a salt merchant. In September 1900, it was acquired by the Sokol Grammar School, which rebuilt the house for its own purposes. In 1903, the painter Ladislav Novák from Prague created the sgraffito decoration of the facade with national motifs and its sculptural division. In 1921, the Grammar School also acquired the neighboring Prince's House and combined the two buildings into one. A memorial plaque on the facade commemorates the work of the Czech violinist and teacher Otakar Ševčík, who ran a music school in Prachatice from 1903 to 1906, specializing in violin playing.
