Hiking

The monumental geometric sculpture by sculptor Zdenek Šimek (1927-1970) on Malé náměstí dates from 1969/1970. Šimek worked on sundials in the last two years of his life, advised by the Prague astronomer Pavle Příhoda. The sundial in Prachatice, considered the largest in Central Europe, was only completed after the artist's death. The dial blocks are made of Zbuzan marble, the gnomon of Vračan limestone. The lines for the hours from 6 to 11 a.m. are displayed on a common block, the hours from 12 to 6 p.m. on separate blocks.
