Built in 1759/60 based on designs by Ignatius Bischof and Friedrich Joachim Stengel.
From the baroque market fountain there is a line of sight to the castle, previously another to the Ludwigskirche and from there one back to the castle - the so-called Stengel triangle.

A beautiful fountain, but I wouldn't let animals drink from it because the water runs in circles and is probably treated so that it doesn't smell or form algae.

The fountain is made of local sandstone and richly decorated with Baroque ornaments. Its central motif is a tall column crowned with the coat of arms of the Nassau-Saarbrücken princely family—a symbol of their power and influence.
Friedrich Joachim Stengel, who designed the fountain, is also the architect of several important buildings in Saarbrücken—such as the Ludwigskirche (St. Ludwig's Church) and Saarbrücken Palace. The fountain thus fits into the overall Baroque concept of the city's redevelopment in the 18th century.
In addition to its aesthetic value, the fountain also had a practical function—it served as a public water source for merchants and townspeople. The water flowed from bronze lion heads.

This picturesque fountain crowns the market square.
