Hiking

In Hedel are the remains of Hedel Castle. The castle was already known before 1336, but was destroyed by the French in 1794. In 1802, the Catholic community of Hedel bought the remains and demolished everything that was still standing. Only the Neerhuizinge (outer bailey) remained standing. This building was also destroyed in the Second World War. In 1981/82, archaeological research was carried out and the castle was consolidated and partially rebuilt so that the castle can be recognized again.
