Rodna (in German: Old Rodenau) is an independent town in the Bistrița-Năsăud district. It is located in the mountain range of the Northern Carpathians named after it and has around 6,000 inhabitants. The area has been populated since the Neolithic period. Documents mention the Tatar attacks in 1241 and 1285, among others. The town is mainly inhabited by Romanians (83 percent), but also by Roma, Hungarians and Germans. Mayor Valentin Iosif Grapini of the Social Democratic Party has been in office since 2016.

    Hiking

Redesigned in 2024, the square in front of Rodna's town hall has become a real gem. Wooden benches invite you to linger, a fountain provides coolness and an LED board is available for public events or public viewing.
