The Rodna Fortress was built in the 13th century as part of the defense system in northeastern Transylvania against Tatar invasions and military interventions from Moldova. Of the splendor of the old citadel, only part of the walls remain today. Right next to it are the ruins of an old Dominican monastery and the associated basilica.
