In the middle of Rodna, the national road 17D crosses the Pârâul Băilor, a tributary of the Someșul Mare (German: Great Somesch). This crossing is called the Holy Bridge because on its north side, under a protective roof, stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. According to tradition, after a dispute with King Wenceslas IV, he was thrown from the Charles Bridge in Prague on March 2, 1393, in chains, and died a martyr's death. Since then, he has not only been the patron saint of all bridges, but he was also venerated as a patron saint by Bohemian miners who worked in the Carpathians. They brought his statue to Rodna in the Middle Ages. The figure has stood on this bridge for more than 200 years.
