It belonged to the Cordeliers monastery, whose church was unfortunately divided to move the Rue de l'Hôtel-Dieu (early 19th century).
During the Revolution, the tower was sold to a private individual as national property and bequeathed to the Hospices of Beaune in the 19th century.
Erroneously called the "Bastion des Hospices", it serves as the backdrop for the prestigious dinner on the occasion of the wine sale of the Hospices de Beaune.
