The rectangular hall building is one of the most famous architectural monuments in Albstadt.
Not far from the church in front of the village is the starting point of the Traufganges "Felsenmeersteig" so that churches visitation and Traufgang hike can be combined with each other.

Hiking

The oldest parts of the present church date back to 7oo AD. The church is believed to have been built around 1100 AD. Thanks to the Romanesque murals from 1070/1080, which are considered to be important examples of monumental early Romanesque, the church has gained a certain reputation among connoisseurs. It is also thanks to the paintings that the church was not demolished in 1892 for a new building. One recognized the value of the paintings and built the new church in another place.

This house of God is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings.
Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.
