The Konventa sēta complex is an unique historical architectural ensemble dating back to the 13th century being residence for the Livonian Brothers of the Swords, a Catholic military order established in 1202 during the Livonian crusades by Albert, the third bishop of Riga (or possibly by Theodorich von Treydend). Following their defeat in the battle of Saule in 1236, the surviving brothers merged into the Teutonic Order as an autonomous branch and became known as the Livonian Order.
After the order left, an almshouse was set up v
here in the 16th century.
Today, it is a hotel.
