Harlingen was once all about whaling. Today we no longer strive to kill these large and grand animals, but rather to save them from death. Especially now that they are increasingly stranded in shallow waters for unclear reasons. The Harlingen fountain is a lifelike sperm whale. He lies as if lost near the Zuiderpier, but every now and then his powerful jet of water reveals that he is indeed alive. 'The Whale' testifies to the enormous influence that humans have on everything that lives in the sea.
