The Civic Tower of Bassano del Grappa is also called 'The Great Tower of the Hours'.
The imposing tower rises 43 meters above the square. It has a massive brick supporting structure and a perimeter wall placed at a height of about 35 metres, and from here with a thinner structure it rises to 41 metres. The mighty truncated pyramid base is no longer visible due to the 19th century apartment buildings.

The Burgertoren was first documented in 1349 on the occasion of the relocation of a municipal clock.
It is probable that it was built before this date, that is to say shortly before or shortly after 1312, when, in order to give greater security to the city growing outside the old castle, the construction of the second city wall was begun.
It is not certain what his function was, military or civilian. It is likely that it was initially designed for military purposes, which made these artifacts of great importance as they provided observation and shooting control over the walls and adjacent areas, a hypothesis supported by the grandeur of the construction, the lack of decorative elements , the position that guaranteed control over the walls.
