The artist Dirk Verbene explains: "The Life + project creates conditions that allow the raised bog to start growing again. The formation of a new package of raised bogs is restarted by, among other things, restoring the wet conditions that were present for the large dykes in the area. .
The pioneer vegetation of birch trees that has emerged everywhere in the excavated area in recent decades will partly have to make way for this. The forest disappears where the raised bog appears.
This installation here in the middle of the Peel, where it all happens, is made of birch that had to accommodate this development.
A monument to this reversal in the landscape: The vertical trunks of the forest must slowly give way and eventually merge with the horizontal layers of the raised bog package. The future will no longer be counted in annual rings but in layers of peat. "

"The life project creates conditions under which the bog can expand again, forming a new peat bog area, restoring, among other things, the hydrological conditions previously found in the large peat bogs in the area. which has formed in the past decades in the archaeological area, has to give way in part. The forest disappears, where peat bog arises.
This installation here in the middle of the National Park De Groote Peel consists of birch trees that have made room for this development. A monument to this reversal of the landscape: the vertical trunks of the forest must slowly give way and eventually merge with the horizontal strata of the peat bog. The future is no longer counted in annual rings, but in layers of peat. "
