The Weberplatz is a generously designed triangular and listed square in the middle of the former weaver colony of Nowawes. In 1753, the Friedrichskirche was inaugurated here. The development on the square is still worth seeing today.

The Weberplatz is the central square of the historic Nowawes, the settlement for the Protestant religious refugees who were exposed to the repression of the Austrian Counter-Reformation in Bohemia from 1751. The Friedrichskirche was also built on Weberplatz. In 1924 Nowawes received city rights. In 1938 the town of Babelsberg merged with the villa colony of Neubabelsberg. Just one year later, it was incorporated into Potsdam.
