It branches off to the left of the Bode south of Quedlinburg, crosses the city center of Quedlinburg, flows further in a north-easterly direction south-east past Ditfurt and then flows back into the Bode. In its course, a height difference of about 15 meters is completed. In the course of the run through the historic city center of Quedlinburg, the Mühlgraben leads past a large number of monuments. With the resulting picturesque views, the Mühlgraben is characteristic of part of Quedlinburg's city centre.
