    Church front, main entrance
The building, a pure baroque church, stands on an artificial plateau about twelve meters high on mighty pillars. Eleonore von Sauberskirchen, widowed Rödderstahl and owner of the Rodaun estate, had the church built between 1739 and 1745. The Viennese master builder Johann Enzenhofer (1687 to 1755) drafted the plans and carried out the construction. In the 14th century there was a castle chapel in the same place. The mountain church belongs to the Catholic parish of Rodaun and is a popular wedding church.

The two large stone figures on the roof next to the tower set represent Saint Catherine (left) and Saint Barbara (right). The straight surface of the tower facade is interrupted by the porch built in 1905 based on a design by architect Richard Merz. The coat of arms of the lord of the castle Philipp Ritter von Rödderstahl (died 1736) can be seen above the choir window. The new clock was moved up under the raised spire. The total height of the tower facade is 35 meters, the width 12 meters. The length of the side facade is 23 meters.

In the interior of the church, there are three large pictures to pay special attention to: the altarpiece with the baptism of Christ by John and the two large side pictures are by the well-known South Tyrolean painter Michael Angelo Unterberger (1695 to 1758). John the Baptist is the patron saint of the Rodaun mountain church. The organ with a neo-baroque case, built in 1905/06, was created by Johann M. Kauffmann.
