What is striking about the castle, or what is left of the original layout, is the massive tower. Since 2010, the old walls have housed a renovated, modern event center.

From an architectural point of view, the mixture of old and new is exciting. The rooms can be rented. The basic features of Perchtoldsdorf Castle date back to the 11th century.

The beginnings of Perchtoldsdorf Castle go back to the early 11th century. Immediately after the Bavarian Duke Heinrich the Zänker defeated the Hungarians in 991 and occupied the Vienna area and the eastern edge of the Alps, a chain of fortifications was built on the southern slope of the Vienna Woods to ward off incursions from the east. One link in this chain was Perchtoldsdorf Castle, a stone tower castle surrounded by a rampart and moat and a palisade fence. It was built by a Babenberg family of servants on the hill above today's market square. The legendary "Berchtold", who gave the place its name but cannot be traced back to historical sources, also belonged to this family.
