A leisurely crossing of the Lainzer Tiergarten, this time from Laab to Lainz, crossing the highest mountain in the area, the Kaltbründlberg (508 m) with the Hubertuswarte (closed in winter). The starting and end points can be easily reached by public buses.

Vienna is a privileged city for hikers because there are great opportunities for excursions in the immediate vicinity. E.g. the nice round around Wolfsgraben. From the middle of the 19th century. Wolfsgraben was still a part of Vienna and belonged to Hietzing and Sechshaus (until 1938).
In 1913 Wolfsgraben was advertised as a "European spa and bathing resort", but nothing of that can be seen today. The restaurant "Dreimäderlhaus" can definitely be recommended for a stop.

Collecting peaks in perfect weather in the city of Vienna: Kolbeterberg (426m), Ochsenkopf (424m), Hochbruckenberg (497m) and Franz-Karl-Fernsicht (488m) are on this tour. Then there are the graves of those from Laudon and stone tablets from Belgrade (Turkish stones) - everything comes from a time when generals were glorified, nothing reminds of the numerous poor devourers who remained on the battlefields.
The refreshment stations (Mostalm, Sophienalm, Rieglerhütte) were all closed.
You can save yourself the descent through the front Halterbachgraben, steep and slippery. But there are plenty of other ways to get into the valley, e.g. through the rear Halterbachgraben. A funicular to the Sophienalpe started here in 1872. This was dismantled again in 1881, the former route is now a hiking trail to the Rieglerhütte and well suited for the descent (currently closed due to woodwork).
The starting point and the end point can be easily reached with the Wiener Linien buses.

Easy hike from Hornstein to the Sonnenberg (unfortunately the sun wasn't at home today) and on to Eisenstadt. Lunch in the Alm restaurant in the Gloriette - highly recommended. Then it's not far down to Eisenstadt, from there the train brought us back to Vienna.
Unfortunately, my Garmin said goodbye halfway through the route. Tip: spare batteries belong in the backpack and not in the night box ;-)

The Vordere Mandling in the Gutenstein Alps has been on my wish list for a long time. The ascent from Waldegg (hiking trail 201A, later blue marking) is not difficult, but it is long. The summit is unspectacular and without a view, only a little later are clearings that allow a beautiful view. Despite the fresh snow, I was able to leave my snowshoes on my backpack, there was already a good trail. Actually, I also wanted to climb the nearby Hernsteiner Lindkogel, but I was late (train delay!) And then left it. It'll come another time.

The round begins with 4 km of asphalt through the cellar lane of Schöngrabern. Still worth it, because of the many beautifully renovated press houses and also because of the wide view of the country. The pilgrimage church of Klein Maria Dreieichen is quite hidden in the forest. The further way through the forest in the direction of Hollabrunn is a bit bland, only when you come back to the open areas do you have a beautiful view: Maria Roggendorf, Aspersdorf, Hollabrunn, and much more. On a clear day you can even see as far as the Holy Mountain near Mukulov, today it was too cloudy for that.

The Grassberg north of Pottenbrunn is not one of the big ones, but definitely recommended for a leisurely hike. At the summit there is even a small summit cross and a summit book, which is unfortunately in a desolate condition due to moisture damage. It's a shame that the two castles Pottenbrunn and Wasserburg cannot be visited. On the way back I made a detour to the "forgotten temple". Warning: no markings, no path, dense deciduous forest without orientation aids - if you venture into this jungle, it is your own fault ...

Flatland hike through the Lobau on a wonderful autumn day. The established refreshment station "Uferhaus" was of course closed due to lockdown, we will be back in spring. The bridges over the Eßlinger Furt were closed due to construction work, so the tour has been extended by a good 3 km. It was nice anyway.

During the hike in the southwestern Waldviertel there are many interesting and legendary rock formations along the way. For example the Reitstein, Totenkopf and Drachenstein, the Steinerne Kornmandl and the Herzstein. You can even climb the skull via metal stairs. From the open areas you have magnificent views, when the weather is nice you can see countless peaks between Ötscher, Gesäuse, Totem Gebirge and Höllengebirge.

Small Sunday afternoon round to Praterspitz and back via Freudenau, with a few delicacies: Central cemetery, Neugebuilding Castle, Simmeringer Heide, Praterspitz, Buddhist Stupa, Freudenau, etc. Many cyclists use the golden autumn day for an excursion.
