This was the location of the encampment of Johan Wolphert, Baron van Brederode, with 3,000 troops. They had to attack the Pettelaarse Schans. 'Onverflout', a work of art by Laura Weeber and Milou van Ham, was installed in 2018 and refers to the siege of 1629. Texts from the 'Nieu Bossche Geusen liedoeck' have been milled into the walls of the watchtower. 'Onverflout' means 'always remain brave'. The siege had its horrors, which are reflected in the texts. In total, approximately 1,300 deaths occurred in 1629. After the surrender, the States General banned the public practice of the Catholic faith, although it was tolerated.
