"Poppelsdorf Palace is the former pleasure palace of the Cologne archbishops and electors.

Commissioned in 1715, it was completed in 1740 and was intended to serve as a rural retreat for Elector Joseph Clemens. This is why it was given the nickname "Clemensruhe". A visual axis runs between the former electoral apartment in the electoral palace and Poppelsdorf Palace, and the two buildings are connected by Poppelsdorf Allee.

In the 12th century, there was already an estate on the site where the palace stands today. Archbishop Walram of Jülich bought it in the 14th century and had it converted into a castle. This was destroyed during the Truchsess War of (1583-1588) and gradually fell into ruin.

Today, Poppelsdorf Palace houses the mineralogical collection of the University of Bonn as well as natural science facilities such as parts of the Steinmann Institute for Geology, Mineralogy and Paleontology, the Institute for Zoology and the Institute for Molecular Physiology and Developmental Biology are located here."
