There must have been a post office in Wanfried very early on, but it is not known where it was.

In 1545, the Hessian Landgrave Philipp the Magnanimous had the first, albeit not regular, postal connection set up between Leipzig-Wanfried - Kassel and Holland. A forester living in Waldkappel had to deliver the mail. A year later, the slow delivery was criticized and a doubling of the number of messengers was requested. The post ran between Wanfried and Eschwege twice a week. However, the letter traffic was low: only 2 to 4 letters are entered by name in a list. Nothing is known about passenger traffic on this route.
