The first Saint Clare church of the Poor Clares monastery from 1467 is no longer preserved. The current building dates from 1708 to 1711. It is one of the most important high baroque monuments in Bohemia. After Emperor Joseph II abolished the monastery in 1782, the building served as a prison from 1822. In 1905 the city bought the building, had part of it demolished and in 1911 used the rest to house the city archives, which are still based here. The church has also served as a concert hall and exhibition space for the Eger Gallery since 1975.

Hiking

The Franciscans followed the Minorites in Eger, who founded their monastery here in 1247 at the latest. In 1464/65 the convent tightened its rules and the Minorite monastery was taken over by the Franciscans, the stricter branch of the order. They stayed here for more than 500 years and were only finally expelled in 1950 by the communist regime of the CSSR.
