At the end of the 16th century, Protestants and Catholics had to share churches; that is why Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne had a Protestant church built in 1593. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, it was transferred to the Catholics, who turned it into its own church again under the leadership of Robert de Cotte: De Cotte added the large round choir.
