In the early 19th century, the city of Sedan underwent urban renovations. The demolition of the Floing bastion made way for a new quarter, which was decorated with a square bearing the name of Turenne. A bronze statue of Turenne, erected in 1821, stands in the center of the square.
The square has a great unity in its construction. The town hall and the courthouse, which face each other, are similar in their columns, frieze and cornices. The pediment of the town hall bears the city's coats of arms, namely a wild boar in front of an oak.
