The Kutteltreppe between Lohmarkt/Neuer Weg and Predigerstraße is, along with the Wassertreppe, one of the oldest staircases in Nordhausen.
The Kuttelpforte was first mentioned in 1206 and 1304. It is the only staircase that still has a wall opening from the old city fortifications. The name comes from the tripe (intestines) that the butchers took to the mill ditch to clean.
The staircase has 74 steps with ten landings and was renovated in 2000/2001. (Wikipedia)
