Unfortunately, no water flows, but the fountain and landmarks are historically interesting.

The Pfalzbrunnen is located on the southern slope of the Kösseine, exactly on the border between Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate. The current version was built by the Fichtegebirgsverein Waldershof in 1907.

When climbing from the hamlet of Kössain (a district of the town of Waldershof) on the white and red marked Steinwaldweg to the summit of Kösseine, you pass the Pfalzbrunnen spring, which is set in granite. It got its name from its immediate location on the administrative district border of Upper Franconia/Upper Palatinate. From our FGV's annual report for 1907, you can see that the spring was tapped by the FGV Waldershof local group and the main treasury subsidized the costs by 160 marks.
On the north side of the spring we read the following inscription:

        Pfalzbrunnen
        Border point
        of the
        royal administrative districts
        Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate
        of the
        royal district offices
        Wunsiedel and Kemnath
        and the
        royal forest offices
        Wunsiedel and Riglasreuth
        and the princely Castell forests
