The Saale cycle path runs over 403 kilometers along the Saale from the source at Großer Waldstein to the mouth of the Elbe at Barby. It touches the federal states of Bavaria (Fichtelgebirge, Franconian Forest), Thuringia (Thuringian Slate Mountains, Saaleland) and Saxony-Anhalt and is considered one of the most demanding river cycle paths in Germany.
