The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a technical university in Eindhoven. The university's motto is: Mens agitat molem ('The spirit moves the masses').

It was founded on June 15, 1956 by the Dutch government and started with Professor Henk Dorgelo as Rector Magnificus. It was the second institution of its kind in the Netherlands, only the Delft University of Technology existed before it. Until August 1986 it was called Eindhoven Technical University (THE).

Since its foundation, the university has had its own campus in the center of Eindhoven, north of the central station. With more than 10,000 students, 250 professors, 600 PhD students, 200 postdocs and 2,047 other employees, TU/e is a medium-sized university.
