On the Dommel you will find the Genneper watermill. The oldest known mention of this mill dates from 1249. However, the mill in question was completely destroyed during the 80 Years' War. However, in 1587 it was repaired and put into operation again. In 1963, the watermill was largely restored and rebuilt. Fun fact: the mill was captured on canvas by Vincent van Gogh in November 1884.

In the mill we bought Eenkoorn, an ancient grain (the precursor of emmer and the “mother” of spelled) that is still grown very little. In what was then Mesopotamia, the cultivation of this grain started almost 10,000 years ago. Einkorn was found near glacial mummy Ötzi (who does not know him?), Which shows, among other things, that the growth area of the einkorn slowly expanded to more northern and western regions. Nice volunteers in the mill, who are happy to tell you everything about the mill!

The Genneper Watermill is one of the oldest and most characteristic mills in Eindhoven. The mill was mentioned as early as 1249 and stands along the Dommel River in the green Genneper Parken. After being destroyed during the Eighty Years' War, it was rebuilt in 1587. For centuries, grain was ground here, oil was pressed, and wool was felted.

The mill is best known because Vincent van Gogh painted it several times during his stay in Nuenen. Today, the mill still operates with a single waterwheel and is a national monument. On certain days, you can visit the inside and buy organic flour in the small mill shop.

A historic and photogenic spot surrounded by nature, the perfect resting place during a walk through the Genneper Parken.
