Hiking

From the 15th century, this entrance consisted of 2 towers connected by a wooden structure. A ditch and a drawbridge strengthened the defense system. According to the plan drawn up in 1745 by the military engineer Franque, it was still necessary to pass under 2 gates controlled by a bastion to enter the city. The beautiful model, purchased in 1978 by the Syndicat d'Initiative and exhibited in the Arvo, gives an accurate picture of the layout of the building in 1632.

Hiking

Upon entering Limbourg via the Thier River, two massive rubble stone towers crowned with battlements welcome visitors. Although dating from the 19th century, one of them includes a reclaimed stone dated 1707 and bearing the letters WB under a crown, the initials of Major de Berset, commander of the stronghold between 1705 and 1707.

Not far away is the site of the former Limbourg Castle, completely destroyed by the troops of Louis XIV. At the entrance to the current cemetery, the Lower Gate is a former bastion of the fortress.
